I said:"Dad, you may leave now."

But he looked out of the window and said,"I’m going to buy some oranges for you. Wait for me here. Don't go about.”

I caught the vision of several peddlers waiting for customers outside the fence beyond a platform.

However, before reaching that platform, crossing the railway tracks and doing some speeling up and down with difficulty would be necessary .

That would be definitely a hard job for father, a fat man.

I intended to do all that myself, but he stopped me. So I had to let him go.

It came into my eyes that he waddled towards the railway tracks and slowly climbed off the platform in his black Chinese skullcap, black mandarin jacket and dark blue cotton-wadded long gown, which brought about an somewhat awkwardness.

But after crossing the railway tracks, he had even more trouble in getting over onto that platform opposite.

Both his hands against on the edge of the platform and then his knees lifting up, his corpulent body was leaning slightly towards the left, showing a great effort.

At this moment, I was watching him from behind, tears streaming down my eyes.

I promptly wiped them from my eyes for fear that he or others should find me crying.

The next moment I looked out of the window again, father was on the way back already, bright red oranges in his hands.

While crossing the railway tracks, he first laid the oranges on the platform floor, crawled backwards down slowly, picked them up again and then moved on.

When he approached the train, I hurriedly got off to help him up.

On getting into the carriage with me, he laid all the oranges onto my fur coat. Patting the dust off his clothes, he seemed kind of relieved.

After a while, father said, “I have to go now. Drop me a line when you are there!”

I gazed at him walking out of the carriage.

After several paces, he stopped, turned around to look at me and said, "Go back in there. Keep an eye on your stuff."

I kept peering at his back fade away in the crowds and finally out of my sight. When I went back to my seat, my eyes misty with tears again. (end)
